YouTube restricts users who have ad blockers installed.
YouTube developers are running a "little experiment" around the world, warning users to disable their ad blockers so they won't be limited to just three video views.
In the middle of this week, Reddit users noticed that a pop-up window began to appear on YouTube, which notifies users of ad blockers that "the video player will be blocked after watching 3 videos."
After receiving such a warning, the user is left with only two options: disable the ad blocker or subscribe to YouTube Premium to get rid of ads on the platform altogether.
YouTube officials confirmed to media that the warnings are part of a "small experiment" in which the company encourages viewers to allow ads on the platform or try a paid subscription.
When journalists asked if the company plans to restrict access to the platform for users who use ad blockers, YouTube replied that video playback can be temporarily disabled in "extreme cases."
The company did not specify which countries users participate in this experiment and see such warnings.
Earlier in May 2023, YouTube developers already conducted a similar experiment. Then the company also offered some users to turn off ad blockers or pay for a YouTube Premium subscription, but then viewing was not limited to three videos.
